WINDOWS 2000 PREINSTALL TROUBLESHOOTING |
Try the options below before doing a reinstall of Windows, you may find it helps to resolve your problems.

Your computer is playing up, running slow, crashing etc etc, you have decided to reinstall windows, but maybe just maybe there is another option. Through this little guide we hope to point you in the right direction.
1.VIRUS
Next run a virus check, you can use our online checker by clicking here, if you find the online checker doesn't work then you more than likely have a virus. You will need further help, so download and install a free anti-virus program. Click here to do so. Remember if you have a virus, read removal instructions before removing, as just deleting a virus can leave your system 100% unusable.

2.SPYWARE
The modern day scourge of the internet. Spyware is located on a large majority of computers. Spyware can seriously hinder your computers performance. Go to this link for further help http://speedupyourcomputer.windowsreinstall.com/part1.htm.
3.DEFRAG
Now run a defrag on the hard drive. This reorganizes your files on the hard drive. A how to do this guide can be found here http://www.speedupyourcomputer.windowsreinstall.com/part4.htm.
4.SCANDISK
Next run a scandisk on the hard drive. A guide for this can be found here http://www.speedupyourcomputer.windowsreinstall.com/part5.htm.
5.UPDATE WINDOWS

It is very important that you install the Windows 2K Service Packs after a reinstall, or even when you install for the first time. The service packs are an upgrade for your operating system

6.USE EMERGENCY REPAIR DISK (ERD)
A nice feature of Windows 2000 ERD. If you have created an Emergency Repair Disk (ERD), use it to troubleshoot and resolve the startup problem. Click here for a guide on using the ERD outside of Windows.
7.FINALLY
At this stage if your computer is still misbehaving then it is time to reinstall or repair windows. With Windows 2000 you can also run a parallel install. The choice is your. So how can you do this ? Create an Emergency Repair disk (ERD). This is a great tool for troubleshooting Windows 2000. To do this Click Start, Programs, Accessories, then System Tools, and then Backup. From the Tools menu, click Create an Emergency Repair Disk. Follow the instructions. You need a floppy drive and floppy disk for this procedure. Click here for a guide.
